薬屋 The Medicine Store

Next to the station in my mid-size town, there is a 5-story shopping center. These shopping centers are pretty common in Japan, with different things on different levels. They're very convenient. [Aside: I was in one in Kyoto yesterday, riding the escalators, and I was like, "It feels familiar! I dreamed two months ago that I was in a shopping center like this!"] On the top floor of the one in my town, there is a 100万円 store, which is about a buck for everything.
Today, I went to the kusuriya to get some antibiotics for my ear piercing, which has an infection. I went up to a woman in a white coat who was stocking medicines. I asked her if she had "アンチィバイオチック” (antibiotics, the English word phonetically), because I saw it written like that in my dictionary somewhere. She didn't know what I meant, and so I flipped out my 電子辞書 (electronic dictionary). When I showed her, she was like, "Oh, sure!!" and she got some for me. When I told her what was wrong, she got something for me that will work perfectly for what's going on with my ear. People here are so, so helpful! So, the word for antibiotics is 抗生物質(こうせいぶっしつ).
